Qualifications

Applicants must have completed a two-year associate degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program. Candidates must have passed the VTNE and meet North Carolina Veterinary Medical Board requirements, hold a current North Carolina license, or be eligible to complete the licensing process.

Applicants must also be in good standing with the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Board.

Minimum Required Skills

The successful candidate must be able to:

• Accurately obtain temperature, pulse, and respiration measurements and appropriately triage patients
• Safely and effectively restrain patients
• Place intravenous catheters
• Calculate and administer injectable and oral medications as prescribed by a veterinarian
• Calculate basic fluid rates and program IV fluid pumps
• Monitor routine anesthesia for healthy patients undergoing elective procedures with minimal supervision
• Induce and intubate patients
• Demonstrate knowledge of standard vaccination protocols, common disease processes, zoonotic diseases, and biohazard safety
• Demonstrate a basic understanding of CPR and a willingness to advance this knowledge through continuing education provided by the hospital

Additional Desired Skills

Depending on experience, preferred candidates may also be able to:

• Independently monitor anesthesia for medically compromised patients and urgent surgical cases
• Demonstrate knowledge of common preanesthetic medication protocols
• Calculate and administer preanesthetic medications under veterinarian supervision
• Confidently take an assigned role during a CPR event
• Maintain RECOVER Basic Life Support certification
• Carry out advanced hospitalization orders, including blood transfusions, antivenom administration, diabetic ketoacidosis protocols, and constant rate infusions
• Operate and troubleshoot equipment, including syringe pumps and infusion pumps
• Provide leadership, share knowledge, and help train fellow nursing team members
• Maintain RECOVER Advanced Life Support certification

Associate Veterinarian Position

Minimum Qualifications: 

• Licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the state of North Carolina
• Current DEA License
• 1 yr experience in small animal medicine

Other Qualifications and Skills:

• Knowledge of basic veterinary preventive medicine and current recommendations for wellness care 
• Ability to efficiently assess sick cases and recommend appropriate diagnostics and treatment
• Competent with basic and routine surgical procedures such as spays, neuters, gastropexies and mass removals
• Ideally, is also comfortable with advanced soft tissue surgeries such as intestinal, bladder and more complex mass removals. However, we are happy to provide surgical mentorship to a motivated and enthusiastic candidate
• Dental extraction and oral surgery experience is preferred. We will provide mentorship to the right candidate if needed.
• Is a team player and supportive and respectful to all staff
• An effective communicator with the ability to diffuse conflict and maintain calm under pressure
• Has enthusiasm and a positive attitude and is excited to practice high quality medicine, seeks answers and knowledge with difficult cases and is always wanting to expand their skill set and knowledge base

Hours and Scheduling

• We are currently closed weekends and holidays, however this candidate would be expected to work until 8pm at least 1 week night.
• We can be very flexible with our scheduling and can offer a 3 or 4 day work week
• We are looking for a candidate who will work a minimum of 30hrs per week, however, we never ask employees to work over 40hrs (most full time employees average 32-36hrs) and we protect lunch breaks and time away from work to encourage a healthy work life balance
