Pet Wellness Care

Regular wellness exams and up-to-date preventative medicine will help your pet live a longer, healthier life. At Sage Pet Hospital, your pet’s well-being is our ultimate goal.

Pet Wellness Care in Hendersonville, NC

At Sage Pet Hospital, we approach pet wellness as a collaborative effort between the pet parent, the veterinarian and all of our amazing support staff. We will not only perform a thorough physical examination, but we will also strive to educate you regarding your options and choices for vaccinations, parasite protection and routine blood work. A low stress environment and gentle handling of your pet is also a priority for our staff.

We recommend bi-annual examinations, as pets do age faster than humans. Therefore, we want to catch any changes or concerns early and offer proactive intervention. Education is also a key component to any examination, and your veterinarian will take the time to thoroughly explain all exam findings and if any follow-up is recommended.

Vaccinations

Through regular pet immunizations, many diseases that might harm dogs and cats can be avoided. When you bring your pet to Sage Pet Hospital for the first time, we’ll make sure their vaccinations are current and put them on a schedule to ensure they continue to be current.

Our veterinarians will explain the best course of action for your pet’s vaccination program based on their age, medical history, lifestyle, and environment. For their initial round of vaccinations, you can bring your cat or dog in as early as six weeks.

Your puppy will need boosters every 3 weeks until they are 4 months old in order to ensure they have adequate immunity. Depending on the vaccine and your pet’s lifestyle, booster shots will be given to your pet every one to three years after the original set of shots is complete.

Parasite Prevention

Parasites (both internal and external) are not always obvious! Fleas can conceal themselves under your pet’s fur, and sometimes they can be very elusive. Intestinal parasites, such as roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms, can often cause symptoms such as diarrhea, weight loss, and abdominal discomfort. However, these infestations can also be asymptomatic and, if regular fecal checks are not performed, can become a low-grade, undetected issue.

We can check your pet for signs of parasites such as ticks, fleas, or other ectoparasites. Our knowledgeable staff can suggest options to treat and prevent intestinal parasites, heartworms, fleas, and ticks. Let’s work together to safeguard your pets and family by preventing parasites in your pets, which also helps to protect kids and other family members.

Microchipping

One in every three pets will go missing. Many lost animals are discovered without collars or tags. Lost pets brought to a shelter are scanned for a microchip and, with the information provided, can be reunited with their owners.

How does it work?

A microchip the size of a grain of rice is inserted between the shoulder blades. Each chip contains a unique identification code activated by a scanner and will last the life of your pet.

Puppy & Kitten Care
Puppies and kittens need to be seen for boosters every three weeks until they are four months old to ensure they have adequate immunity.

Do you have any concerns about your nutrition, training, vaccinations, grooming, parasite protection, or overall health? What about advice on how to socialize your new pet with other pets and family members? Even if you are an experienced pet owner who has previously had puppies or kittens, each pet is unique and provides an opportunity to learn something new!

We look forward to answering your questions and addressing any concerns you may have. The more knowledge you have about your pet, the better you will be able to care for him or her.

Puppy and kitten wellness visits also provide an opportunity to discuss your new pet’s recommended vaccine schedule and the best plan for parasite testing, treatment, and prevention. We at Sage Pet Hospital are well-versed in veterinary vaccines and parasite control, and our goal is to provide you with the best advice for your puppy or kitten. We will review your pet’s vaccine and deworming schedule and discuss the best way to proceed, so bring any records you have received.
