Dr. Toria McHarg
Dr. McHarg is originally from Chester County, PA and earned her undergraduate degree in Animal Science from University of Delaware. She then traveled to Athens, GA to attend the University of Georgia, earning her doctorate in veterinary medicine in 2011.

Dr. McHarg has practiced in the WNC area since moving here in 2015 and fell in love with the Blue Ridge mountains. With an interest in internal medicine, integrative care and seeking connection with the community, Dr. McHarg decided to open Sage Pet Hospital in 2022.

Dr. McHarg is married and has a son and daughter. They live in Mills River with 2 sheep, far too many chickens, 2 dogs and 3 cats. Her passions outside of veterinary medicine include cooking, baking and cake decorating. Her family loves to hike and explore the beautiful mountains.

Dr. Maria Hes
Dr. Maria Hes grew up in the piedmont of North Carolina, and attended UNC-Asheville for her undergraduate studies and never really left the mountains. She received her veterinary degree from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 2012. She has a special interest in dentistry, client education, and dachshunds. She lives in Asheville with her two daughters, husband, and two dogs, Cedar and Badger. When she is not practicing the art of medicine, she enjoys spending time outside, baking, reading, and acting.

Dr. Julie Notestine

Dr. Julie Notestine first discovered her love for animals at 9 years old with the adoption of her two childhood cats and began dreaming of becoming a veterinarian from a very young age. Connecticut born and raised, Dr. Julie graduated from University of Connecticut with a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science. She moved to Florida to attend University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated with her DVM in 2019. To be closer to family, she moved to North Carolina to start her career in Vet Med and now lives in the Asheville area with her fiancé Pat and their two rescued cats, Gemma (8 years) and Winnie (6 years). Dr. Julie has a special interest in surgery, dermatology, and internal medicine as well as having certificates in shelter medicine and fear free medicine. Outside of work, she spends her time hiking, reading, and enjoying video games and board games with friends.
