Maybe your dog has been drinking more water.

Perhaps your cat has been losing weight.

Or your veterinarian is trying to understand a collection of symptoms that haven’t quite added up.

Those concerns are important.

But a thorough pet ultrasound can reveal much more than the one problem that initially prompted the examination.

During a complete abdominal scan, the veterinary team evaluates multiple organs and structures throughout the abdomen. Some are large and relatively straightforward to identify. Others are smaller, more difficult to visualize, and easy to overlook without the right experience and technique.

The adrenal glands fall into that second category.

A small area of fur may be clipped to allow the ultrasound probe to make proper contact with the skin.

Gel is applied to improve the connection between the probe and the skin.

The sonographer then moves the probe across the area being examined while collecting images from different angles.

Many pets can undergo ultrasound without sedation.

Some anxious, painful, or highly active patients may need additional support so the examination can be performed safely and accurately.

The veterinary team considers the individual pet rather than assuming every patient will respond the same way.

A Complete Ultrasound Is About the Whole Patient
